FLOAT
-
The session lasts 60 minutes inside the flotation tank - but we highly recommend taking some time in our relaxation room post float to help you further enjoy the after effects of floating.
-
We provide all toiletries, ear plugs and towels for your session. So just bring yourself and an open mind 🙂
-
Ideally you wear nothing in the float tank, this is to allow your skin to adapt to the water temperature and take away the sensation of feeling. The room is yours for the hour and completely private. However if you feel uncomfortable doing so, you can of course wear a swimsuit.
-
Avoid caffeine or any stimulant up to 3 hours before. Allow time after eating and try to avoid heavy meals. Use of alcohol or drugs prior to floating is strictly forbidden at Soul Float.
It is recommended to not shave prior to a float session.
-
Same principle, different manufacturers. Just like Iphone vs android, there are lots of different makers of float tanks. We’ve chosen two UK manufacturers that offer slightly different styles.
Cabin - offers a spacious float room size with high head room & starlight ceilings to create a perfect space to switch off and relax
Pod - sleek and stylish with its revolutionary futuristic design, to transport you to a world of calm and tranquillity. With a selection of colour therapy LED spa lamps to enhance your float session.
-
Gently lie back into the water and find a comfortable position to float in. It can take a few minutes to find a comfortable position, so gently move around until you are comfortable.
Try to avoid touching your face and eyes. (don’t worry if you accidentally do - there is a spray bottle with fresh water in the tank)
Try not to go into your first float with any expectations. In this modern digital world our senses are constantly stimulated - try to relax and let the water support your mind and body. Most people need three float sessions within a month before they can fully appreciate just how profound floating can be.
-
Each person's float practice is different. It might take a few sessions to find your groove with how best to relax.

Most people are able to reap the benefits of floating but there are a few exceptions.
Please do not float if you:
have recently dyed your hair, applied fake tan or have a recent tattoo.
suffer from epilepsy
have open wounds, sores, or rashes
have a contagious illness or disease
are incontinent
have uncontrolled kidney disease
have uncontrolled psychosis or schizophrenia
are allergic to Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) or hydrogen peroxide
have an uncontrolled seizure disorder
have an uncontrolled heart condition
have a condition which means you shouldn’t get water in your ears
recently had chemotherapy
Have consumed drugs or alcohol prior to floating
We recommend that if you are on any sort of prescription medications or suffer from a chronic illness that you contact your GP prior to floating.
Please see our medical waiver to check if floating is suitable for you.
-
You are in complete control when you’re inside the float tank. You can turn the lights on and off as you wish and can open and close the door/lid as much as you like. You can play around with what makes you feel the most comfortable.
-
YES. You can float whilst pregnant but it is not recommended during your first trimester. Many women find comfort in their third trimester when floating due to the feeling of weightlessness.
-
YES. There is no issue floating whilst on your period as long as you can control your menstrual flow via tampons/cups. Floating has been shown to help with period pain and PMS.
-
Ideally to make the most out of your float session you would stay in for the full 60 minutes. However everything is within your control, so if you need to get out at any point you of course can.
-
Soul float is located on the first floor, so you will need to be able to get yourself up a flight of stairs. You will also need to be able to get yourself in and out of the pod or cabin by yourself as we are unable to assist you. You are welcome to bring someone along to assist you but they must be properly qualified and insured.
-
Floating regularly has cumulative benefits. The more you float the better it gets. How often you float comes down to personal preference. We float regularly ourselves here at Soul Float, floating once a week. If you want more guidance on frequency please book in for a chat and tour round the centre.
-
The water is heated to approx 35ºC to mimic the same temperature as your body. This means you won’t feel hot or cold during your session but you should start to lose the feeling of where the water ends and your skin begins.
-
Your session will be bookended with music at both the beginning and at the end of the session. The music is designed to gently bring you back into reality. The lights will also come on at the end of your session to let you know it’s time to get out.
-
Both our float tanks are single person occupancy. However we run simultaneous floats in both tanks at once. So you can both float at the same time in your own private rooms. Click here for our special offer for floating with a friend.

Are you intrigued by floating but still have questions…

INFRARED SAUNA
-
Infrared saunas work differently to traditional saunas in that they raise the body temperature directly, rather than heating the air. You will be able to spend longer in the infrared sauna in a more comfortable heat and will develop an intense sweat by the end of the session.
-
You can use the infrared sauna as much as you like as all infrared rays are completely safe.. Sauna practice and frequency comes down to personal preference and what you’re using the IR sauna for. We are regular users of the IR sauna and like to get in at least 2 or 3 times a week.
-
It is recommended that you wear either a swimsuit or a towel in the sauna.
-
You will have the sauna for 40 minutes and the room for 50 minutes to change and freshen up. You can pop in and out of the sauna as much as you like during the session. Make sure you take some water into the room with you to keep hydrated.
-
Halo = greek for salt
Salt therapy is a natural form of treatment that involves the inhalation of salt-rich air, and is seen as an effective treatment for a variety of ailments:
Respiratory problems
Skin conditions
Mood regulation
Hay fever
Sinusitis
-
Yes. The benches are removable to make space for 1 person to do hot yoga. We also have yoga mats to rent for the session or you can bring your own.
-
YES! Infrared radiation has been used for centuries to treat a variety of health conditions and more recently has become popular as a way to improve overall health. Don't let the term radiation fool you, infrared is non-ionising, meaning that it is not harmful.
-
It is important to make sure you drink enough water both before and after your session to avoid dehydration. Avoid using the sauna when hungover or after drinking alcohol. Please note plastic water bottles are not permitted in the sauna.
-
Make sure you drink plenty of water after your sauna and take full advantage of our relaxation room where you can continue to unwind with one of our complimentary herbal teas.
-
The sauna holds a maximum of 4 people. You can also book the sauna solo or any number of people up to a max of 4. All sauna sessions are private to your group or individual.
-
Absolutely, you have the sauna room to yourself or your group. Once in the room you have it available for 50 minutes and no one else is permitted into the room during that time.
-
Infrared saunas work differently to traditional saunas and heat your body instead of the air around you. Clearlight saunas usually range from 38°C to 66°C. However, despite the lower air temperature, the infrared heat in Clearlight Saunas penetrates the body more deeply, so they can trigger a similar or even greater sweat response than those of traditional saunas.. Have a look at this link via Clearlight for more information on the benefits of lower sauna temperatures and Infrared therapy :
-
There is a shower located in the infrared sauna room for you to use either pre or post sauna (or both!).
-
The sauna is cleaned in between each session. Plus - Infrared radiation is proven to kill germs and pathogens in the air.
-
Chromotherapy or colour light therapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible wavelengths of the colour light spectrum to treat the mind and body. There is growing evidence that Chromotherapy can play a pivotal role in the treatment of reducing stress and anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders or imbalances. Colour light therapy relies on the premise that each colour is associated with a different bodily response.
